The Peer
Education and Support (PEAS) is a certified peer
education training program that covers the following
topics above. After completion of a semester training,
students are certified and invited to participate as an
active peer member. PEAS is an affiliate of
BACCHUS &
GAMMA.
What is PEAS?
Peer Educators
and Support (PEAS) are a group of students trained and
committed to providing information and assistance to
students and the Cal State San Marcos community regarding
pertinent health and wellness related issues. PEAS are
trained to help encourage and educate their peers to make
healthy lifestyle choices through programs, presentations,
workshops, group discussions and campus awareness events.
PEAS serve as individual sources of information, provide
appropriate referrals, and serve as Student Health Center
advocate. See our

What do PEAS do?
PEAS
represent Cal State San Marcos and promote healthy
lifestyles to students, their families, and the whole
campus community.
PEAS
meet two hours a week for a semester for training and
certification. Once certified, PEAS are committed to a
semester of active participation in the campus community
and meeting twice a month.
PEAS
assist with the
planning, programming, and implementing of some Health
Education programs such as World AIDS Day, Safer Spring
Break, Sexual Responsibility Week and More...
PEAS
are positive role models for CSUSM students. They act as
mentors, leaders, helpers and educators on campus.
PEAS
provide up-to-date information about health related issues
through various programs, workshops, events and
presentations,
and refer students to appropriate offices and resources on
campus as needed.
PEAS
network with other student organizations/clubs, with other
peers, and other peer educators nationally and locally.
PEAS
provide outreach events in the community.
PEAS
have lots of fun!
What are other
benefits of being a PEAS?
PEAS
are a part of a highly skilled team of students who are
committed to increasing awareness and providing accurate
information about current health issues.
PEAS
become more educated on student health and safety issues
which can affect them physically, emotionally, socially
and academically.
PEAS gain experience in public speaking, group facilitation and
effective communication skills.
PEAS
develop greater self-confidence and become effective at
problem solving, decision-making and program planning.
PEAS
have an opportunity to help and serve others while gaining
experience for graduate school, important skills for
future career, and a meaningful life.
PEAS
have the opportunity to participate in the
BACCHUS and
GAMMA
national conferences.
PEAS
have the opportunity to meet new people, network with
other peers, have fun, build leaderships skills, and
organizational skills.
PEAS
work with Student Health and Counseling Services to gain
invaluable experiences.
How
Can I become a Peer Educator?

First YOU need to
apply. You may print a PDF file
and
submit the application. |

Train |
You MUST attend a
semester long training to become a certified peer
educator. Trainings are conducted every Fall
Semester. |

Participate |
You must participate
at least in 3 events, presentations, or workshops. |
Commit
|
After training, we
expect you to commit to a semester for events. |
