The Path to Planning

History

In December 2004, President Karen S. Haynes commissioned a new strategic plan.  This plan would serve to build a vision for the future, address significant growth and improvement opportunities and align budget and resources with campus priorities.

The strategic plan embraces CSU priorities outlined in the Cornerstones Report, the CSU strategic plan, and recognizes the intricate system of enrollment, academic, budget and physical master planning.  The university's commitment to academic excellence, student life, campus climate, community partnerships, and educational equity are pillars of the plan with objectives built around each of them.

The strategic plan provides divisions, colleges and individuals with a lens by which to guide strategies, actions and decisions.  At the same time, it provides us, both as a university and individuals, the flexibility to be innovative and imaginative, leverage new opportunities and respond to changing environments while remaining focused on our shared vision.

Planning Bodies

President's Cabinet

The President's Cabinet meets monthly to discuss and recommend policy initiatives and changes, act as planning council and (at minimum) three times a year review planning benchmarks; discuss and recommend future directions and priorities for the campus; disseminate information from the CSU; provide leadership in implementation of University priorities; and coordinate discussion and seek input from the campus community.

Council for University Strategic Planning

The charge of CUSP is to ensure all members of CUSP are prepared to lead their divisions as we implement strategic planning at Cal State San Marcos, develop and implement a framework and process for the successful implementation of strategic planning on campus and within each division, ensure all future funding allocations are clearly tied to the strategic priorities of the campus, and support the planning activities across multiple divisional areas.

University Budget Committee

The University Budget Committee is an advisory body to the President charged with receiving, reviewing, analyzing and prioritizing budget requests in support of campus strategic goals and objectives, and from a multi-year budgeting model perspective.
