Promoting Latino Education and Leadership


 

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI)
An organization whose programs are designed to increase the participation of young Hispanics in both public and private sectors and to foster a network of young Hispanic leaders in government-related areas. x

 

Hispanic Border Leadership Institute (HBLI)
A consortium of eight higher-education institutions whose mission is to improve the education of Hispanics from pre-kindergarten to doctoral studies by creating systemic change.

 

Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)
The mission of SACNAS is to encourage Chicano/Latino and Native American students to pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees necessary for research careers and science teaching professions at all levels.

 

National Community for Latino Leadership (NCLL)
The National Community for Latino Leadership seeks to develop leaders who are committed to ethical, responsible, and accountable actions on behalf of the U.S. Latino population and the broader community; and dedicated to promoting the social, cultural, and economic advancement of the Latino community.

 

 

Latino Research Centers


 

Center for Chicano-Boricua Studies

The Center for Chicano-Boricua Studies originated as the Latino en Marcha Leadership Training Program in 1971.  It was established by Wayne State University, the Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development (LA SED), and New Detroit, Inc.  In 1972 it became an academic center.  CBS was one of the first undergraduate academic programs for Latinos in the Midwest.

 

Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies

UCSD thus offers a unique array of opportunities for cutting-edge research on Latin America. There is a constant stream of seminars, symposia, workshops, conferences, and public presentations, and a widespread commitment to excellence in the research enterprise.

 

Central American Research & Policy Institute

CARPI is the result of diligent efforts by CSU Northridge and Central American community organizations for the purpose of developing research, policy and knowledge supporting the socioeconomic, cultural and civic development of the transnational Central American community.

 

Chicano Studies Research Center

The UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC) was founded in 1969 with a commitment to foster multidisciplinary research efforts as part of the land grant mission of the University of California . That mission states that University of California research needs to be in the service of the state and that it must maintain a presence in the local community.

 

Institute for Latino Studies

The Institute for Latino Studies, in keeping with the distinctive mission, values, and traditions of the University of Notre Dame, promotes understanding and appreciation of the social, cultural, and religious life of U.S. Latinos through advancing research, expanding knowledge, and strengthening community.

 

Inter-University Program for Latino Research

IUPLR is a national consortium of university-based centers dedicated to the advancement of the Latino intellectual presence in the United States. IUPLR works to expand the pool of Latino scholars and leaders and increase the availability of policy-relevant Latino-focused research.

 

Julian Samora Research Institute (JSRI)
The JSRI is committed to the generation, transmission, and application of knowledge to serve the needs of Latino communities in the Midwest.

 

Latin American Center
The Latin American Center at UCLA sponsors interdisciplinary research, coordinates bachelor's and master's degree programs in Latin American Studies, issues publications, and hosts events for the campus community and general audiences.

 

Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC)
LACC’s mission is to foster high-quality research, education, and services on Latin America and the Caribbean, building on the unique assets of our inter-American setting.

 

The Mauricio Gastón Institute

The Mauricio Gastón Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy was established at the University of Massachusetts Boston through the initiative of Latino community activists and academicians in response to a need for improved understanding of Latino experiences and living conditions in Massachusetts.

 

Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives
The Center's mission is to advance knowledge and understanding of Latino contributions to U.S. history, culture, and society.

 

Washington State Institute for Public Policy (WSIPP)
The Institute’s mission is to carry out practical, non-partisan research—at legislative direction—on issues of importance to Washington State.

Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR)
The HACR is a non-profit organization that strives to ensure that there is equitable participation of the Hispanic community in corporate America commensurate with the Hispanic purchasing power.

 

Latino Resource Center (LRC)
The Latino Resource Center is an internet-based information and communication resource center for the local Latino community.

 

League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)
The mission of the League of United Latin American Citizens is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States.

 

Tomás Rivera Policy Institute (TRPI)
The Tomás Rivera Policy Institute conducts and disseminates objective, policy-relevant research and its implications to decision makers on key issues affecting Latino communities.

 

National Council of La Raza (NCLR)
The National Council of La Raza is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, tax-exempt organization established in 1968 to reduce poverty and discrimination, and improve life opportunities for Hispanic Americans.

 

The William C. Velásquez Institute (WCVI)

The purpose of WCVI is to conduct research aimed at improving the level of political and economic participation in Latino and other underrepresented communities; To provide information to Latino leaders relevant to the needs of their constituents; To inform the Latino leadership and public about the impact of public policies on Latinos; To inform the Latino leadership and public about political opinions and behavior of Latinos.
