Less is Less: What's Next?

In addition to the recommendations that our assessment results encourage, CSUSM faculty see other opportunities to advance students' learning of writing before they reach college. Two programs in which college faculty work in concert with public schools are the Collaborative Academic Preparation Initiative (CAPI) Project and the Border Voices Project.   CAPI links CSUSM Mathematics and Literature and Writing faculty and students with high school faculty and students in five (5) neighboring high schools (a CAPI website is currently under construction) while the Border Voices Poetry Project brings poets into K-12 classrooms to work with students.

These two programs examine student writing and guide students to strengthen their skills.  These two projects also allow us to improve the efficacy between high school preparation and college expectation by building a community of teachers devoted to students' skill at developing and engaging their writing processes.
