Analyze Real Data
The National Council
of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM),
Project 2061 (AAAS), and the National
Science Education Standards (draft)
recommend that students in grades K
to 12 collect and analyze actual data
collected by themselves and others.
According to these documents and organizations,
mathematics and science
literacy have become essential to a society based
on technology and
communication. The collection and analysis of actual (or
real) data
provides one avenue through which students can increase their
science and
mathematics literacy.
