Grape Day Park is located in the center of Escondido. It is an important part of our past because there were festivals here each year at the end of harvesting. The park contains memories of old Escondido such as: a train depot, a victorian house, a blacksmith shop, a barn, and the Heritage Walk Museum. Grape Day Park contains buildings from Escondido's pioneer days. These buildings were relocated from some other place in Escondido to this park. The building used by the Escondido Historical Society was used as Escondido's first library. We have a picture of director Norm Syler, secretary Alice Bartley, and Marie Tuck from the Escondido Historical Society. TheVictorian House in Grape Day Park is 100 years old. It shows Queen Anne-Eastlake's style of furniture and architecture. It is filled with furniture, original glass panes, and tools from old Escondido. The design stays virtually the same as the day it was built. The park is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from1-4 for tours. The barn in also over 100 years old and has been restored with old lumber from that time period of Escondido. Inside the barn are the tools used in farming during the turn of the century. The Blacksmith shop was very important back in the old days. They provided almost anything metal. Nails for building, tools for farming, and shoes for horses were all provided by the blacksmiths. This building contains the things the blacksmith used and made. Part of this shop contains anvils, forges, and tool which the blacksmith use to give classes to people and teach them how to work like a blacksmith. Visitors can just watch the blacksmith at work if they don't want to participatein the classes availible there.
