It seems like just a few years ago when a video
camera was a major investment, a luxury that only the most affluent could afford. Today,
not only does most everyone have access to one, but you can count on any tragic event in
our nation to be covered by multiple freelance photo journalists.
Because we are all bombarded with videos, text, and images compiled in editorial fashion,
it is especially important for students to learn this language of the 21st
century known as video.
In this videoconference, we will review the
validity of using video in todays standards-aligned classroom. You will also
be shown several examples of video being used in the classroom, by both teachers and
students. Finally, you will have an opportunity to explore how video might be used
in your own classroom or school.
To promote visual literacy skills and to encourage and reward the use of video to support curriculum standards,
the San Diego County Office of Education is proud to be hosting the 2nd annual
iVIE, Innovative Video in Education, student and teacher film festival and
competition. Please consider entering your own video or your students video(s)
in this years competition. (Please visit the Website for information and
applications)
