Presenter Bios
Dr. Ray
began her career as a middle school science teacher where she taught in
one of the first 21st Century classrooms in the state of
Tennessee. Her career began to focus more on technology after becoming a
certified network administrator for Aquinas College in Nashville, TN. Dr.
Ray was an Assistant Professor of Education Technology at Middle Tennessee
State University before being invited to develop the First
Center for the Visual Arts’ technology design. Presently, she serves as an
Assistant Professor of Information Systems in the College of Natural and
Applied Sciences at Lipscomb University and as the Director of Technology
in the Office of Science Outreach at Vanderbilt University School of
Medicine. She consults school systems, universities, and museums
throughout the southeast in designing networks, implementing distance
learning, developing applications, and setting up technology rich labs.
Dr. Ray
is a member of the International Society for Technology in Education where
she serves on the Minority Leadership Symposium. Other affiliations
include the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education,
International Technology Education Association, National Science Teachers
Association and the American Education Research Association. She is
President of the newly established Tennessee Distance Learning
Association, in conjunction with the United States Distance Learning
Association. Current projects include designing a high school computer lab
specific to inquiry science, conducting research on the effectiveness of
videoconferencing as an instructional tool, conducting research on the
attitudes toward scientist and science teacher partnerships, conducting
research on the adoption of technology among faculty in colleges and
universities in relationship to recruitment and retention. Dr. Ray
presents nationally and internationally on topics related to science and
technological literacy as well as distance education.
