Kimber Quinney Lecturer Dr. Quinney brings a unique expertise in the history of U.S. foreign policy to Cal State students at a time when Americans are becoming more attentive to foreign policy questions. Her knowledge of U.S. foreign policy has been won through years of education, research, and work in the field. As an undergraduate at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, she majored in foreign relations. She went on to earn a master’s degree in international relations at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. After several years working in a think tank in Washington, D.C., she says, she realized that the foreign policy specialists who had the most valuable analyses were those who approached issues from a historical perspective. Dr. Quinney’s appreciation for looking at the historical roots of current politics led her to UC Santa Barbara, where she completed her doctorate in 2003. Her research on U.S. and British relations with Italy during and after WWII took her to archives in Italy and Britain. Her research on Italy is also inspired by her personal connection with the country, since she traveled there often as a child visiting her mother’s family. Before her arrival at Cal State San Marcos, Dr. Quinney taught at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. |
