Program: Summer in Spain 2008
Dates:  May 25 - June 21, 2008 (Classes are May 26-June 20)
Description: 4-week Intensive Program of Spanish Language and Culture
Location: Valladolid, Spain
Application Deadline: March 21, 2008
Cost:  $2,595

1) PROGRAM INFORMATION

2) COURSE OFFERINGS

  • Nivel Inicial  (5 units)

Credit for SPAN 150:  Accelerated Beginning Spanish

Equivalent to CSUSM SPAN 101 and 102

Prerequisite: one semester of Spanish

  • Nivel Intermedio  (5 units)

Credit for SPAN 201: Intermediate Spanish I

Fulfills CSUSM foreign language graduation requirement

Prerequisite:  Span 102

 

OR

 

Credit for SPAN 202: Intermediate Spanish II

Prequisite: Span 201

  • Nivel Avanzado  (5 units)

Credit for Span 301 or Span 350A:  Advanced Spanish in a Study Abroad Setting

Course can be applied towards Spanish Major/Minor

Prequisite:  4 semesters of college level Spanish.

  • Nivel Superior  (5 units)

Credit for Span 450B: Advanced Seminar in Spanish in a Study Abroad Setting

Course can be applied towards Spanish Major/Minor

Prerequisite:  Span 400A, 400B, 400C or 400D.

  • Actividades Extracuricurales  (1 unit)

Credit for Span 199:  Intensive Spanish Practice in a Study Abroad Setting

3) TRANSFER CREDIT - Transcripts will be issued from Universidad de Valladolid.  Units earned will be TRANSFER CREDIT.   Official transcripts for future academic needs must be requested from Universidad de Valladolid.

All students must take a minimum of five (5) units:  three (3) units satisfy core requirements, two (2) units satisfy general elective requirements. 

One (1) unit of Intensive Spanish Practice is available for students who must take a minimum of six (6) units to qualify for Financial Aid.  The one (1) unit satisfies general elective requirements.

CSU San Marcos Students:  Transfer credit will be reflected on your CSUSM Transcript.  Grades and course information will not be posted on a CSUSM transcript.

Students attending other universities:  It is recommended that you obtain credit approval from your resident university to confirm that a transcript from the Universidad de Valladolid will fulfill your requirement.

4) PROGRAM FEES

Pay in the Office of Global Education, Craven 3200

  • $300 NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT DUE:  March 21, 2008
  • $2,295 BALANCE DUE:  April 25, 2008

Fee includes deposit, University of Valladolid fees, health insurance, and homestay (private room). This fee does not include airfare or personal expenses.

Pay with cash, money order, or checks. Please make checks payable to "CSUSM".

 8) PLACEMENT TEST & DATE

  • The Placement Test determines how your Spanish language skills place in the Universidad system.  If the results of the test place lower than the level that you enrolled in, you can still take the course if you have completed the prerequisite.  The placement test helps the Universidad to develop the curriculum for each course.
