Sweden
Örebro University

Established as a University College in
1977, Örebro achieved full university status in 1999. It is now a growing,
modern university campus with many new buildings.
Örebro University has over 15,000
students, 700 faculty members, and 80 majors in the humanities, soci al
science, and science.
Research has a high priority at Örebro,
so students have the opportunity to engage in many research projects.
The campus is located in a wooded area
about one mile from the city center.
The city of
Örebro is in the heart of Sweden, about 120 miles from Stockholm With a
population of about 125, 000,
Örebro is Sweden's seventh largest city.
The city of
Örebro dates back to the 13th Century. Its medieval castle is one of
central Sweden’s most spectacular sights.
In the city
center there are four shopping arcades and a number of both large and small
shops of all types. About 6 miles south of Örebro is the huge shopping center “Marieberg,”
with over 60 shops.
Any part of the
city is only a few minutes bicycle ride away from campus. One of the more
striking aspects about Örebro is actually that biking is the most common way of
getting around, in spite of the excellent public bus system. Low cost bicycle
rentals are available for visitors.
Near Örebro,
there are many recreation facilities including both downhill and cross-country
skiing, one of Europe's largest indoor swimming facilities, great mountain bike
and running tracks, and year around concerts and theater performances.
