Chung Yuan Christian University was founded in 1955
and today has an enrollment of more than 13,000 students. The
beautiful campus is located near the capital of Taipei. Chung Yuan
Christian University is consistently ranked by the Ministry of
Education as the best private university in Taiwan.
With five colleges, it is particularly strong in
business and science. Chung Yuan Christian University also teaches
Chinese as a foreign language, attracting many students from around
the world interested in learning Chinese.
Taiwan is a modern, prosperous country that has
managed to preserve many traditional Chinese cultural
characteristics.
The capital of Taipei is a cosmopolitan city with
many cultural attractions. The longstanding and strong ties to the
U.S. and the many commercial connections with the U.S. have brought
many Americans to Seoul and many Taiwanese to the U.S. over the
years. Consequently, it is relatively easy for Americans to live and
travel and Taiwan.
The country offers many interesting historical and
cultural sites to visit. In addition, Taipei offers a variety of
entertainment, restaurants, and places for students to gather.
An excellent public transportation system makes it
easy to navigate the city and surrounding region.
Taiwan is generally recognized as the best place
to study Chinese language because it has retained the traditional
Mandarin style and structure and because the quality of teaching is
very high. This is an ideal location for students to improve their
Chinese.
Program Features
- Students may select from some classes taught in
English and study Chinese language.
- All work transfers back to San Marcos and can
be used to fulfill all graduation requirements.
- On-campus dormitory for exchange students.
Fees and Expenses
- Regular State University Fee paid to CSU San
Marcos. No tuition or fees at Chung Yuan Christian University.
- On-campus Dormitory: $900 per semester. Health
Insurance: $37 per month. Cost of meals and personal expenses will
vary, but average $500 per month.

- Consult with the CSU San Marcos Study Abroad
Advisor in Craven Hall 3200 to determine if you are eligible for this program.
- Consult with a faculty advisor in your major
department to determine if the Chung Yuan Christian University
courses will count toward your major. If so, complete a Study
Abroad Credit Approval Form.
- Obtain and complete an Exchange Student
Application form and submit it to the CSUSM Study Abroad Advisor
in Craven Hall 3200
along with copies of all your academic transcripts.
- Application Deadlines
April 1 for Fall, Summer
October 1 for Spring
Eligibility
- Upper-division status (completion of 60 units)
required for participation.
- GPA of 2.75 or above.
