Program: Summer in Costa Rica
Dates:  June 26 - July 27, 2008 (Classes are June 30- July 25)
Description: 4-week Intensive Program of Spanish Language and Culture
Location: San Jose, Costa Rica
Application Deadline:  April 25, 2008
Cost:  $2,150 -  Does not include airfare or personal expenses.

2) COURSE OFFERINGS 

Espaņol Elemental 101 & 102

        Credit for SPAN 150 (5 units)

        Accelerated beginning Spanish (101 & 102)

        Prerequisite:  one semester of Spanish

 

Espaņol Intermedio 1 - 203

       Credit for SPAN 201 (5 units)

       Fulfills CSUSM graduation requirement.

       Prerequisite:  Span 102

 

Espaņol Intermedio 2 - 204

        Credit for SPAN 202 (5 units)

        Prerequisite:  Span 201

 

Espaņol Superior Avanzado

        Credit for SPAN 301 (5 units)

        Prerequisite:  4 semester college level Spanish

 

Conversacion 1 - 320/Intro Cultura Latinoam 430

        Credit for Span 350B (5units)

        Prerequisite:  4 semesters of college level Spanish

 

Conversacion 2 - 420/Intro Cultura Latinoam 450

        Credit for Span 450B (5units)

         Prerequisite:  Span 400A, 400B, 400C or 400D

 

Actividades Extracurriculares

        Credit for SPAN 199.(1 unit)

        Intensive Spanish Practice in a Study Abroad Setting.

        Available for students applying for Financial Aid.

3) TRANSFER CREDIT - Transcripts will be issued from Universidad de Costa Rica.  Units earned will be TRANSFER CREDIT.   Official transcripts for future academic needs must be requested from Universidad de Costa Rica.

All students must take a minimum of five (5) units:  three (3) units satisfy core requirements, two (2) units satisfy general elective requirements. 

One (1) unit of Intensive Spanish Practice is available for students who must take a minimum of six (6) units to qualify for Financial Aid.  The one (1) unit satisfies general elective requirements.

CSU San Marcos Students:  Transfer credit will be reflected on your CSUSM Transcript.  Grades and course information will not be posted on a CSUSM transcript.

Students attending other universities:  It is recommended that you obtain credit approval from your resident university to confirm that a transcript from the Universidad de Costa Rica will fulfill your requirement.

4) PROGRAM FEES

Pay in the Office of Global Education, Craven 3200

  • $2,150 FULL PAYMENT DUE:  April 25, 2008

Fee includes deposit, University of Costa Rica fees, health insurance, and homestay (private room). This fee does not include airfare or personal expenses.

Pay with cash, money order, or checks. Please make checks payable to "CSUSM".

8) PLACEMENT TEST & DATE

  • The Placement Test determines how your Spanish language skills place in the Universidad system.  If the results of the test place lower than the level that you enrolled in, you can still take the course if you have completed the prerequisite.  The placement test helps the Universidad to develop the curriculum for each course.
