Dance Video and Outreach: Work with highschool girls' club, "Latinas Y Que", to create a dance video which provides the girls a platform for creative expression and self-confidence.Video will also be used for Girls, Inc. as a promotional piece. Collaborate with dance students from Professor Karen Schaffman's Choreography class.Serve as mentor to girls as artist, technologist and college student. Utilize media literacy about representation of girls as part of the creative process. |

A small production team will work in collaboration with 8-10 highschool Latinas from Girls, Inc. to create a dance video. Hours vary week to week. Locations: Vista, San Marcos, North County. Preproduction: 2-3 meetings with girls' club, Girls Inc. staff and CSUSM dance students to develop project at 1 hour per meeting. 2-3 hours a weeks learning production skills. Production: Approx. 5 video shoots need to to be organized at 2-3 hours per shoot over several weeks including the airband competition in March. Post-production: Approx. 6 hours a week editing video during final 3-4 weeks of school. Class time may be used to learn production skills, edit, organize project, go on shoots and host visits for the girls to the campus. |

Documentary: To create a short documentary video about Confia en Ti (Confide in Yourself). CONFIA’s Hiring Hall provides a safe, neutral site where both employers and those looking for “pick up” work negotiate fairly and successfully. The major portion of the CONFIA program delivers physical and behavioral health services and life skills training. The documentary will about Confia en Ti. A key component will be working with the people who use Confia to find ways in which they would like to be represented. | Pre-production: Work with Luis Garcia, Program Manager, to create relationships with the users of Confia En Ti, most of whom are homeless. Collaborate with Mr. Garcia to develop the documentary about the program and people. Production: cameras,

Production team will work with Program Manager and service users to define and issues and practices, and develop stories to produce a short 7-10 documentary about the journey from "dependence and dysfunction, to independence and successful living" through Confia En Ti. 4-5 Preproduction and postproduction meetings to seek program approval at 1 hour per meeting over semester. Includes time spent without cameras in early morning (5:30 am) meetings with day laborers at the Hiring Hall. 5-7 video shoots at 2-3 hours a shoot. Editing will be continuous over semester, rather than at end. 4-5 hours a week editing, sound design, graphic design and music composition. Class time may be used for shooting, editing, meetings. |

Interactive DVD: Working with California artists and poet, Professor Brandon Cesmat, and a diverse, rural population of parents to create an interactive DVD that brings together the activities in the Even Start workshops. These include writing, interviews, and visual arts.
