As is frequently true for me, a good part of the purpose of this trip was to spend some time alone exploring the world.  I'd previously explored southwest Utah including Zion and Bryce National Parks (which can be busy even in the winter) but have found better hiking (i.e., quiet trails with good scenery) in south central Utah around Escalante (pictures of that in the future).  The main purpose of this trip was to explore south east Utah around Moab, so most of the pictures are from that area.  

 

Traveling in the Winter, it's frequently hard to take good pictures -- the days are short, the shadows are very long along canyon walls, and the reflection off snow can be quite bright.  So, there were a number of situations that were outstandingly beautiful but I simply couldn't get good pictures -- I'll mention them below.

After taking I-15 through Las Vegas to St. George, Utah, I started heading for back roads from there.  Following are taken as I headed through Zion National Park and up to Bryce National Park, where I spent the night:
