Maybe it was because of the slowness of the road up, but the cliff dwellings didn't seem to be particularly popular. When I was there, there were only a few groups of families visiting the dwellings -- which was good, since that made it easier to reflect on what it must have been like to live there at the time of the cliff dwellings. The area was smaller and much more intimate than other cliff dwelling areas that I've seen, which suggested probably a rougher, but more intimate, life than in the larger dwellings.

A few miles from the main site was a much smaller dwelling that had been built into the bottom of a cliff. Per a park pamphlet, there was another similar small dwelling nearby, though I couldn't find it..
