The CCAE is fortunate to be able to hire eight outstanding local artists to participate in the SUAVE program as arts coaches. We thought you might like to get to know them all!
| Mindy Donner - This is Mindy's fifth year with the SUAVE program.
Mindy began teaching curriculum through the arts as a Waldorf kindergarten teacher.
She has consulted for many County school districts. She designed and implemented
puppetry arts and storytelling programs through he company, The Spinning Wheel Puppet
Players. Mindy. received a grant to implement a drama, visual arts, and music
after school program for special education students in several local schools. She
has experience in modern dance, weaving, water color painting, and clay sculpting. Kim Emerson - This is Kim's second year in the SUAVE program. She has worked in historic architectural consulting, environmental design, and public art. Kim has a background in museology which includes exhibition design and curatorial responsibilities. She is a painter and creates mosaic works of hand-made ceramic tile, glass tile, and found objects. Kim has a BA in Art History and a MS in Historic Preservation of Architecture from the University of Oregon. Eduardo Garcia - This is Eduardo's fourth year in the SUAVE program. Eduardo is a classical guitarist and folk musician specializing in Latin American culture. He has experience with theater groups in Mexico and was a member of Chaski (group in residence at CSUSM) which performed throughout the San Diego area offering education performances from elementary to college levels. Eduardo is also a founding member of the Fern Street Circus. Eduardo has a MA from UCSD. Roxanne Kilbourne - This is Roxanne's first year in the SUAVE program. She has worked for the past 15 years as a performing artist and trainer integrating drama, dance, writing, and visual arts in a classroom setting. Most recently she conducted drama, poetry, and visual arts workshops at the Southeast Community Children's Summer Camp. She has been the keynote speaker for the California Literature Project, the Facilitator for Harmony in Diversity--Peace Patrol Conflict, a Guest Artist at the Wolftrap Center for the Arts in Washington D.C., and a Teacher Trainer a the Kennedy Center for the Arts. |
Eduardo Parra - This is Eduardo's third year in the SUAVE program. Before
becoming a full-time arts coach, Eduardo was a secondary school advisor at San Marcos
Middle school. Eduardo is a set-designer, actor, and musician. He has shared
his talents with many programs. He has instructed music, Latino history and culture,
and designed and presented multi-cultural fine arts programs for kindergartners through
adults. Abel Silvas - Abel joins the SUAVE program this year. He has been as Artist-in-Residence for many schools and cultural centers. An actor, mime, and storyteller, he teaches both children and adults the use of pantomime and storytelling to explore their own history. He studied for over 10 years with the Marcel Marceau School of mime and has danced with the Northeast American Ballet company. He is the regional representative of the California Indian Storytelling Association. Robert Todd - This is Robert's first year in the SUAVE program. He is currently a Master Teacher at the San Diego Institute for Arts Education. He joined the San Diego Institute following a 10-year association with the Lincoln Center Institute of Arts Education in New York. In his career as an arts educator, he has designed model art programs and facilitated curriculum development workshops for teachers and students. He has performed with nations concert troupes: the Hamburg Ballet of Germany, Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, Martha Graham Contemporary Dance Ensemble, and several noted choreographers. Roberta Villaescusa - This is Roberta's fifth year with the SUAVE program. She is a California credentialed art educator teaching a variety of visual arts. While predominately a three-dimensional design ceramic sculptress, she has exhibited her drawing and paintings both in solo and juried shows. She has an AA degree in Drawing and Painting from Grossmont College, a BA in Art Education from San Diego State University, and a California Teaching Credential in Art from SDSU. |

Announcing our new Program Manager! Jo-Ann Hoye is the CCAE Education Program Manager and SUAVE Coordinator. She joins us from her position of Project Coordinator with the Vista Community Clinic. She brings 17 years experience in Education Program Development, supervision, and policy management. As a artist, Jo-Ann has been a director, choreographer, playwright, and actress with a number of college and community organizations. She holds a MS in Counselor Education and a BS in Speech and Hearing from SDSU. We are glad to have her here and know that she will be a true asset to our team! |
