To add transitions:

• Select the "Trans" button to view the various transitions available.
• Click on the clip that you want the transition to start/end into the other clip.
• Select the transition and view the preview.
• You can change the speed of the transition with the speed slider located above the list of transitions.
• Once you have the desired transition, drag it from the list to the timeline in between the two clips you are wanting the transition.

The transition will appear with a red bar underneath. The red bar is showing the rendering of the transition and as soon as it is complete, you can view the transition in its whole in the timeline.
