November 24 -- CSUSM Cougar Scramble Pictures
Enjoy these pictures from the 2008 CSUSM Cougar Scramble!  This was a fundraiser for Cougar Golf and the Alumni Association, played at Lake San Marcos Country Club on November 14th.

November 24 -- Rematch:  Women's Soccer Gets Another Shot at Azusa Pacific
The second round the National Championships has brought a familiar foe for the Cougar women's soccer team.  #13 Cal State San Marcos will face off against #4 Azusa Pacific on Monday, December 1st, in Daytona Beach, FL.  The game kicks off at 4:30 PM.  These teams met in the second round of the Region II playoffs last season, with Azusa Pacific narrowly escaping with a 2-1 win.

November 22 --  CSUSM Women's Soccer Defeats Benedictine (Kan.) 2-0, Advances to Daytona Beach
In just its third year of existence, Cal State San Marcos Cougar women’s soccer is heading to Daytona Beach, FL; the final site of the 2008 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championships.

November 22 --  Women Take Third, Men Twelfth at Cross-Country National Championships
Coach Steve Scott’s Cal State San Marcos Women’s Cross-Country Team recorded the best finish at Nationals in the program’s 10-year history on Saturday, taking third place. The men’s team posted a strong finish as well, taking twelfth.

November 21 -- Ron Pulvers Named A.I.I. Coach of the Year; Five Cougar Women Named to All-Conference Team
CSUSM Coach Ron Pulvers has been named Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Women's Soccer Coach of the Year, and five of his players earned a spot on the All-Conference Team.

Are you ready for some playoff soccer? Cal State San Marcos will serve as host school for the 2008 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round match between the Cougars and Benedictine (Kan.).

November 17 -- Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team
Congratulations to Kaycee Gunion, Michele Ramirez, Lauren Hernandez, Kelly Wherry, Taylor Ziencina, and Katelyn Krauss for being named to the 2008 Association of Independents Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team!  Kelly Wherry was also named the tournament MVP.

November 15 -- Women's Soccer WINS A.I.I. Championship!
Cal State San Marcos has won the first-ever Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championship!  The second-seeded Cougars and first-seeded Simon-Fraser went through regulation and overtime locked in a 0-0 scoreless tie, but the Cougars would prevail in penalty kicks, winning the shootout 7-6.

November 14 -- Women's Soccer Crushes Embry-Riddle 6-0, Advances to A.I.I. Final
"It's playoff time."

The above quote, spoken by CSUSM Head Coach Ron Pulvers following his women's soccer team's 6-0 blowout victory over Embry-Riddle, is probably the best way to sum up the reason behind the Cougars' most dominating performance of the season.

November 13 -- Reminder:  Women's Soccer Playoff Tomorrow
Just a reminder that the Cougar women's soccer team will be competing in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) playoff tomorrow.  The second-seeded Cougars will take on third-seeded Embry-Riddle at 2:00 PM in San Antonio.  Results will be posted here following the match.

November 8 -- Cougar Cross-Country Sweeps A.I.I. Championship Meet

October 30 -- Women's Soccer Playoff Schedule
Cal State San Marcos women's soccer is headed to San Antonio for the first-ever Association of Independent Institutions playoff!  Here are the seedings:

1.  Simon-Fraser
2.  Cal State San Marcos
3.  Embry-Riddle
4.  Our Lady of the Lakes

#2 CSUSM will take on #3 Embry-Riddle on Friday, November 14th, at 2:00 PM.  If the Cougars win, they'll face the winner of the #1 vs. #4 matchup on Saturday, November 15th, at 2:00 PM.

October 29 -- Cougar Men's Soccer Closes Out Season with Scoreless Tie
Playing in front of the always loud and loyal crowd at Mangrum Track & Soccer Field for the final time this season, Cal State San Marcos men’s soccer played to a scoreless tie with Chapman on Wednesday.

October 28 -- Lakdawala Leads Cougar Men's Golf to Strong Showing at Bill Cullum Invitational
Playing their final tournament of the fall, Cal State San Marcos men's golf looked the best they have thus far, finishing 11th at the Bill Cullum Invitational.  Shezad Lakdawala led the way, tying for 45th.

October 26 -- Cougar Soccer Picks Up Pair of Big Wins
Competing in Prescott, Arizona, Cougar men's and women's soccer made it a clean sweep of Embry-Riddle on Saturday.  The men, fighting for their playoff lives against a rival in the Association of Independent Institutions, got an enormous and impressive 4-0 victory, while the women recovered from a loss earlier in the week to win 1-0 in their final regular season game.

October 22 - Men's Soccer Loses 5-3 to CSUDH
Facing a very strong opponent on the road, Cougar men's soccer was able to put up a fight, but ultimately fell 5-3 to Cal State Dominguez-Hills.

October 21 -- Men's Golf Places 8th at Santa Clara Invitational
Competing in their second tournament of the fall, the new-look Cougar men's golf team placed 8th at the Santa Clara Invitational on Tuesday.

After two rounds of golf, Cougar men's golf sits in 9th at the SCU Invitational.  Shezad Lakdawala is tied for 14th after shooting rounds of 73 and 74.  The final round will be played tomorrow

October 19 -- Men's Soccer Gets Above .500, Defeats San Bernardino 1-0
Tough defense was the theme of the day on Sunday, as Cougar men’s soccer earned a 1-0 victory at home over Cal State San Bernardino.  The win puts the Cougar men at 7-6-2 on the year. It’s the first time since August 29th that CSUSM has been above .500.

The #12-ranked Cougar women’s soccer team continued on its path to the playoffs on Sunday, playing an evenly-matched contest at home against Cal State San Bernardino that ended in a 1-1 tie.

Cougar men’s soccer played Cal Poly Pomona to a scoreless tie on Saturday, in front of the home crowd at Mangrum Track & Soccer Field.  CSUSM is now 6-6-2 on the year.

Cougar women’s soccer turned in one of its finer efforts of the season on Friday, defeating Cal Poly Pomona handily, 3-1.  The win moves the #12-ranked Cougars to 10-2-2 on the year.

October 16 -- Big Weekend Coming Up for Cougar Athletics
Just a quick heads-up:  Cal State San Marcos men's and women's soccer are each hosting a pair of games this week.  CSUSM will take on Cal Poly Pomona tomorrow (Friday), with the women playing at 1:30 and the men at 4:00.  On Sunday, the women will take on Cal State San Bernardino at 12:30 and the men will play them at 3:00.  Also, on Saturday Cal State San Marcos is hosting the Cougar Challenge cross-country race, with the 5K starting at 8:00 AM.  Cougar fans are welcome to come out and cheer on their teams as the fall season begins to wind down!

Also, the women's soccer box score from 10/11 (at East Bay) is now available, and season stats are updated.

October 14 -- Linnel De Villa Ties for Second, Roxanne Mejia Ties for Fifth at Aztec Invitational
A pair of outstanding individual performances highlighted the Aztec Fall Classic for Cal State San Marcos women’s golf, as Cougars Linnel De Villa and Roxanne Mejia both notched top-5 finishes, while the team as a whole finished fifth.

October 13 -- Linnel de Villa Leading After First Round of Aztec Invitational
Cougar sophomore Linnel de Villa is in first place by herself after shooting +1 (73) in round one of the Aztec Invitational on Monday.  She'll look to hold onto that lead during Tuesday's final two rounds.  CSUSM as a team sits in 5th place out of 7 teams.

October 12 -- Men's Soccer Gets Win Over CSU Monterey Bay
In the second and last game of their road trip, Cougar men's soccer defeated Cal State Monterey Bay on 1-0 Sunday to get back to .500 on the year.

October 11 -- Women's Soccer Wins 3-0
Cal State San Marcos women's soccer improved its record to 9-2-2 on the year with a 3-0 win over Cal State East Bay on Saturday.  The #13 ranked Cougars got a first half goal from Katelyn Krauss, then two second half goals from Lauren Johnson to seal the win.  Brittini Salmon earned the shutout in goal.  

Stats for this game are yet to be received, and will be posted when available.

October 11 -- Cross-Country Shines at Vanguard; Both Men and Women Place 2nd
Cougar cross-country lived up to its lofty national ranking on Saturday, as the #3-ranked women and #5-ranked men both finished second at the Vanguard Invitational.  Competing in chilly conditions against a field chocked full of NAIA top-25 teams, both CSUSM squads managed to place only behind Azusa Pacific in the standings.

October 10 -- Women's Soccer Gets Big Win Over San Francisco State, 2-1
Playing in San Francisco, CSUSM women’s soccer got a big win on Friday, defeating San Francisco State 2-1.  The #13 ranked Cougars are now 8-2-2 on the season.  San Francisco State drops to 8-5-2.

For the second time this season, Cougar men's soccer was on the verge of improving its record 
above .500, but couldn't quite make it. CSUSM lost at San Francsico State on Friday 2-1.

October 7 -- Women’s Soccer Scores Two Second-Half Goals, Defeats Chapman 2-1
A second half comeback on Tuesday saved the #13 ranked Cougar women’s soccer team from two straight losses, as CSUSM eventually dispatched of Chapman 2-1.

Men's golf finished in 6th place in its first tournament of the fall, finishing up its third round of competition at the Coast BMW College Challenge on Tuesday.

Competing in their first tournament of the fall, the Cougar men's golf team sits in 6th place after the first two rounds.  Newcomer Curtis Gruidl is leading the team after shooting rounds of 77 and 76.  He is tied for 21st.

Men's soccer got another much-needed win on Sunday, defeating La Sierra 4-0 at home to even their record on the year.

September 30 -- Women's Golf Solid in First Tourney of the Fall; Finishes 7th
Competing in their first tournament since last spring's school-record third place finish at Nationals, the rebuilt Cougar women's golf team performed well, placing 7th at the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational.  Sophomore Roxanne Mejia led the way by tying for 14th.

Competing in their first tournament of the Fall season, Coach Fred Hanover's Cougar Women's Golf team sits in 7th place after day one of the Grand Canyon Invitational.  Roxanne Mejia is leading CSUSM, currently sitting in the top-10 overall, and newcomer Stephanie Cole had a very good debut.

"I'm pleased with where we are," noted Hanover.  "We are only going to get better."

September 27 -- Men’s Cross-Country Takes Second at Riverside
In what was an outstanding all-around effort, the Cougar men’s cross-country team placed 2nd at Saturday’s Riverside Invitational.

September 27 -- Dallon Williams Wins Riverside Invitational, Breaks School Record; Team Takes Third
On Saturday, Dallon Williams became the first Cougar woman to break 17 minutes in the 5K, shattering the school record by running 16:55.  The senior cruised to individual victory at the Riverside Invitational, leading CSUSM to a third place team finish.

September 24 -- Baseball Tryouts
Tryouts for '09 (Fall) Baseball will be on Saturday, November 22, at San Marcos High School at 10:00 AM.  Tryout papers must be turned in to Head Athletic Trainer Brian Smith (CFH 116) prior to the tryout date.  These forms can be found on the Athletic Training website.

For the first time in the 10-year history of Cal State San Marcos Cross-Country, both the men's and women's teams are ranked in the national top-5.  The women are #3 this week, while the men are tied for #5.

September 21 -- Men's Soccer Battles Adversity, Loses 3-2
In a game that was decided in large part by the head official’s whistle, Cougar men’s soccer fell at home on Sunday 3-2 to Westminster.  CSUSM is now 3-4-1 on the year.

September 21 -- Krauss' Hat Trick Lifts Women's Soccer to Easy Win
Three goals by Katelyn Krauss was enough for Cougar women’s soccer to coast to a 3-0 victory over Westminster College on Sunday, as #9 CSUSM improved its record to 5-1-2 on the year.  The senior forward from Yorba Linda, CA now leads the team with four goals on the season.

September 19 -- Women's Soccer Moves Up to #9 in the Nation
Cougar women's soccer continues to climb the national rankings.  In this week's NAIA poll, CSUSM cracked the top-10 for the first time in program history, settling in at #9.

September 17 -- Men's Soccer Plays to Tie with Point Loma
Entering Wednesday’s match against Point Loma, Cougar men’s soccer was looking to get over .500 for the first time since 2006. They got about as close as a team possibly could to accomplishing that, but settled for a 1-1 tie.  The Cougars are now 3-3-1 on the year.

The undefeated season for Cougar women’s soccer came to an end on Wednesday, with Point Loma besting CSUSM in overtime, 2-1.  CSUSM is now 4-1-2 on the year; Point Loma is 5-1.

Coach Steve Scott's cross-country teams continued to have strong starts to their seasons on Saturday.  Competing against numerous NCAA schools, the Cougar women finished 5th in a field of 17, while the men took 8th.

September 10 -- UPSET ALERT:  CSUSM Men’s Soccer Knocks Off Defending National Champion Azusa Pacific
Despite a 1-3 record on the season entering Wednesday’s contest, the Cougar men’s soccer team knew they were playing better ball than last season.  Coming off a heartbreaking loss to UCSD in which the Cougars allowed two goals in the final five minutes, Coach Ron Pulvers’ squad just needed to find a way to break through.

September 5 -- Wild Finish Spells Heartbreak for Men's Soccer
When Christian Soares tucked away a penalty kick in the 85th minute, it looked for a brief moment that Cougar men's soccer was going to pick up an upset win over UCSD.  But it was not to be, as UCSD rallied for the equalizer just a minute and a half later, and the game winner a few minutes after that.  The Tritons won the game 2-1.

In what had the potential to be one of the most frustrating games in CSUSM soccer history, Mike Nuovo sent Cougar fans home happy with a goal in the 103rd minute that lifted his team to a 1-0 win in its opener.

Playing in their final scrimmage before next week's season opener, the Cougar women's soccer team bested San Diego Mesa CC 2-1 on Wednesday.

August 19 -- Men's Soccer Competes in Final Fall Scrimmage
In their final tune-up before the start of the regular season, the Cougar men's soccer team fell 2-1 to California Baptist.  Midfielder Greg Reese accounted for the Cougars' lone goal.  Both the CSUSM men and women kick off their seasons next Tuesday, August 26th, at home against San Diego Christian.
