Morgan Hoodenpyle
Operations Coordinator |
I am a History and Women's Studies
double-major. Thus, I am wildly excited by all history
that relates to women, sexuality, and social justice. I am passionate about women's
political and social issues, the
environment, social justice (with a particular interest in
environmental justice), cello rock, and the Dome's
cappuccinos. I love to discuss history, literature, and
music to great lengths (sometimes
too great) and would love for you (yes you!) to visit the Women's
Center to learn, explore, discuss, or just chat.
In September of 2006, I was certified as a Rape Crisis and
Domestic Violence Advocate by the Center for Community Solutions and
have a year's worth of informal counseling experience.
Last year I served as the Programming and Events Coordinator for the
Women's Center and organized events around issues as diverse as
breast and testicular cancer awareness to events on women's history
to major musical performances. I was also the ASI Student
Employee of the Year.
Within the Women's Center,
my role is to organize the daily functioning of the Center,
including our information, services, and volunteers. I also
serve as the Lead Women's Center representative as well as the
liaison to the Women's Center Advisory Council. If you have
any questions regarding the general functioning of the Center or
would like to volunteer, please feel free to contact me at the
Women's Center email,
asiwomenscenter@csusm.edu or via my personal email,
hoode002@csusm.edu. |

Lindsay Riedel
Women's Programming & Events Specialist
|
I am
currently a Senior majoring in Social Sciences and Women's Studies,
with a minor in Criminology. I am very passionate about social
justice, political activism, writing, reading, learning, and helping
others. I hope to help people think and develop their
understanding about "-ism's" and diversity, and I hope to find a career
that allows me to truly make a difference in the world.
In the
past two years, my on-campus involvement has greatly affected my
experience as a college student for the better. Last
year I served as Secretary of the Women's Studies Student
Association (WSSA) and I consistently volunteered at the Women's
Center. Also, I expanded my awareness of political activism
and traveled to Washington D.C. to join the anti-war movement.
I received the Junior of the Year award from Associated Students,
Inc. and I've been a Dean's List honoree since my Freshman year.
This year, I'm looking forward to being a staff member of the
Women's Center, participating in the Student Discussion Leader
program, and serving as Co-President of WSSA and Secretary of the
Progressive Activists' Network (PAN).
As the
Women's Programming and Events Specialist, I will be planning and
presenting several events on campus throughout the year. Be on
the lookout for fliers about awesome upcoming events! Also, I
will contribute to the writing and production of The RAG, the
Women's Center monthly newsletter. Please feel free to contact
me at riede001@csusm.edu.

Herminia Ramirez
Campus & Community Outreach Specialist |
My name
is Herminia. I am a Women Studies major. I am an activist by heart.
Women's Studies is my passion because to be in this major you have
to care about what's going on around the world, and you meet people
who really care. Women's Studies gives me the drive to be an
activist and create change.
I love to sketch and create. My favorite artist is Frida Kahlo. I
like to express myself in many ways, like she did. I also like to
learn about new cultures. I think every culture is very special and
you can never know to much about them because there are so many. I
am very passionate about preserving our environment.
I love working at the Women's Center because it lets me express my
activism, and work with awesome people. This will be my second year
working at the Women's Center. This year my role has changed a lot,
I get to express my creativity through the newsletter, and my most
important job is to do a lot of outreach. I am a certified crisis
advocate. I love to talk, so come and visit. You can reach me
at ramir102@csusm.edu. |

Christina Holmes
Volunteer Organizer |
Hi
Everyone! This is my second year here at San Marcos. I transferred
from a community college in Orange County as a Women's Studies
major. My passion in education surrounds women's health issues,
specifically sexual and reproductive health, although I enjoy
studying all social justice and human rights issues. My other
personal passions are studying ancient spiritualities, metaphysics,
and promoting holistic health. In my free time I enjoy reading
historical fiction or watching a good independent film.
I became a certified Rape Crisis & Domestic Violence Victim Advocate
through the Center for Community Solutions last January. I also hope
to become a certified doula (birthing assistant) sometime this year.
On campus, I work with Student Health and Counseling Services as an
assistant to the health educator, I am the President of the Women's
Studies Student Association, and the Treasurer for Triota, the
Women's Studies Honor Society.
As the Women's Center Volunteer Coordinator, my goal is to help you
get excited about being involved on campus. Not only can we all use
your help, but there is so much for you to gain from committing an
hour a week to the center. There are many ways to help including
helping to plan and coordinate events with community members and
campus organizations, publicizing and attending Women's Center
events, setting up and running activity tables during our larger
events, or writing for the Rag. If you are interested contact me at
holme024@csusm.edu,
or stop by the Women's Center! |
