Mission:
The focus of our group is to promote awareness of our culture. We
have a strong emphasis towards supporting the success of our African
American students on campus as they navigate through the CSUSM
experience. Please be sure to contact one of the current AAFSA
officers if you wish to find out more about our association.
Message from AAFSA President:

Welcome
to the 2009/10 Academic Year and the African American Faculty
Staff Association (AAFSA) website! I
am so excited about the many opportunities we will
have to continue our work and I hope that after browsing through our
pages, you will share my enthusiasm for the history and the
accomplishments of this Association. As the AAFSA President, I’m
excited to get to know you, and I’m looking forward to a successful
and productive year.
AAFSA
has many longstanding traditions that will continue to grow and
impact our campus community this year. The African American First
Year Student Welcome Program, the Fall Welcome Luncheon, the Soul
Food Luncheon, the African American Recognition Ceremony, the
University Leadership Conference and the Mentoring program continue
to showcase our culture, support the success of our CSUSM students
and provide opportunities for us to support one another in our day
to day lives. As the dates of these programs arise, please mark
those dates on your calendar. Studies show that Faculty and Staff
involvement in a student’s education is one of the strongest
indicators of student retention and achievement. We hope you will
make it a priority this year to attend as many AAFSA sponsored
events as possible.
No matter how much we accomplish, there is always
more to be done. An association with many dedicated and active
members can make a difference in the school’s growth and
development, and it definitely enhances the experience of our
students. If you have any questions or concerns or you would like to
get involved or volunteer to help out, you can contact me at (760)
750-4989 or
mmcwilli@csusm.edu or any one of the officers listed.
“Facing
the rising sun of our new day begun Let us march on till victory is
won.”
Marilyn McWilliams,
AAFSA President
