Attending college begins an exciting new chapter in your life, but getting started can feel a bit scary. That is why SSS  & EOP  offer services that help you succeed during your transition to college and eventually graduate with a university degree. As a first-year SSS or EOP student, you have the unique opportunity to participate in the First Year Learning Community.

What is the Learning Community (LC)?

The LC is a structured first-year program for SSS & EOP students who are highly motivated to succeed in college. Students who are chosen to participate in the LC will enroll in 2 courses per semester (4 courses total) with other SSS & EOP students during their first year at CSUSM.

The LC emphasizes academic excellence and community building within a supportive environment. In other words, the expectations for LC students are very high! However, the support of your peers, SSS & EOP staff, and LC professors help you meet and exceed these expectations.

Participating in the LC affords highly-motivated SSS & EOP students these advantages:

Become part of a supportive intellectual community focused on your success. Guarantee your priority registration in LC courses for the Fall & Spring semesters of your first year.

Complete 4 courses which satisfy CSUSM general education requirements and the CSUSM Writing requirement.

Being part of the LC is a privilege which carries with it certain obligations.  LC students must make education their priority, which includes planning work schedules around school.
