As Director of Student Support Services (TRIO), Mr. D’Andréas is responsible for oversight of SSS program services, management of fiscal and personnel transactions, and compliance with University policies and Department of Education legislation and regulations.   Mr. D’Andréas is a member of the management leadership team for Learning Assistance Services and serves as a campus resource on retention and learning assistance.

 

Since 1992, Mr. D’Andréas has worked in counseling, programming, and teaching roles in higher education, including Our Lady of the Lake University, St. Edward’s University, and MiraCosta College.   He joined Cal State San Marcos in 2002 as the SSS Coordinator.  In addition to his higher education experience, Mr. D’Andréas worked for 14 years in a variety of mental health settings as a case manager, music therapist, marriage and family therapist, and clinical supervisor. He is recognized as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.

 

Mr. D’Andréas’ scholarly and research interests include retention in higher education, multicultural competence, queer theory, and the intersectionalities of race, class, gender, and sexuality.   He is currently an adjunct faculty member in Women’s Studies at Cal State San Marcos, teaching courses such as Cinema & Gender, Men & Masculinity, and Gender & Race in Contemporary Society.

As Coordinator / Counselor of Student Support Services (TRIO), Ms. Northway is responsible for academic, transitional, and personal counseling for SSS students.  She also provides admission into the SSS program to new students.  And arranges cultural events and graduate school field trips.  Furthermore, Ms. Northway oversees mid-semester evaluations and works closely with the staff for the planning of the fall and spring workshop schedules and newsletters as well as the preparation of such events as the annual graduation recognition ceremony.

 

Ms. Northway has previously served both SSS and EOP in her roles as Graduate Intern and Special Consultant. Prior to these roles, Ms. Northway held supervisory positions within museums and non-profit organizations.  In these positions, she has enjoyed collaborating with diverse groups of people from a wide spectrum of nationalities, ethnicities, cultures, socioeconomic levels, sexual orientations, ages, and religions.

 

Ms. Northway’s professional interests include honoring the cultural contributions and expressions of people from throughout the world.  She is also deeply concerned with retention and equity issues within institutions of higher learning.  Her other interests include multicultural studies and women’s concerns. She is a member of Chi Sigma Iota (Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society), National Association for Student Personnel Administrators, American Counseling Association, and Association for Psychological Type.  Most recently, Ms. Northway has been granted the title of Board Eligible National Certified Counselor by the National Board for Certified Counselors.

As Retention Counselor for Student Support Services (TRIO), Ms. Sell is responsible for coordinating various academic support services, which includes organizing supplemental instruction and a workshop series. Ms. Sell works collaboratively with faculty and Learning Assistance Services to create learning experiences that promote success both inside and outside the classroom. Additionally, she provides one-on-one support to students,  fostering their personal and academic growth.

 

Since 1999, Ms. Sell has worked in higher education as an admissions counselor and a residence hall director. In these roles, she developed and coordinated various support services geared toward bringing voice to underrepresented student populations. Ms. Sell joined the Student Supports Services Team in 2005.

 

Ms. Sell’s scholarly and research interests include, but are not limited to: retention in higher education; social justice; anti-racism education; feminist and queer theory; intersections of race, class, and gender; and multicultural competence in counseling. Additionally, she currently provides counseling services to low-income families and volunteers her time working with Person’s Living with AIDS.

As the graduate intern for the Educational Opportunity Program & Student Support Services (TRIO), Ms. Nuñez works closely with students so that they are academically and financially on track. Ms. Nuñez analyzes Mid-Semester Evaluations and assists students in meeting their educational goals. Ms. Nuñez is also responsible for presenting workshops that will stimulate students’ academic and personal growth. Recently she presented a graduate school workshop and hopes that more students will consider attending graduate school.

Ms. Nuñez was a dual member of SSS and EOP during her undergraduate studies at Cal State San Marcos . She was part of the 2001 Bridge Program and first-year Learning Community. Ms. Nuñez does not hesitate to state that EOP and SSS helped her tremendously. In the fall of 2005, Ms. Nuñez was the SSS Senior Excellence Award Recipient. She hopes to instill support and encouragement for students in the program this year and beyond.

Ms. Nuñez is a keen advocate of on-campus organizations. She served as the Vice President of the Human Development Club, Secretary of the National Honor Society in Psychology (PSI CHI) and member of the honor society in Women’s Studies (TRIOTA). Presently she is a board member for the Human Development Alumni chapter. Ms. Nuñez' interests include multicultural counseling, traveling, learning new languages, singing, dancing, and meeting new people.
