There are four books for this course:

Michael Lewis:  The Culture of Inequality

Toni Morrison: Beloved

Arthur Schlesinger Jr.: The Disuniting of America

William Julius Wilson:  When Work Disappears

There will also be other short readings that you will be able to find either on the Internet (I will give you instructions) or some may be available at other locations.

There will also be two films that you will need to view later in the term.  These include  a film of the play by Arthur Miller: Death of a Salesman with Dustin Hoffman and the film:  Lone Star. Both of these films are available in our media center and can be checked out.  You will be told well in advance when you will need to view these.
