We have developed two exercises that illustrate the process of identifying earthquake epicenters based on real seismic data. The first exercise allows you to explore a map of seismic stations and interactively determine earthquake epicenter locations. In the second exercise, you take on the role of a seismologist and study seismograms of selected seismic stations and identify P- and S-wave arrivals. The application will determine the distance of the selected seismic stations from the epicenters based on your marks. With enough information you can then determine the earthquake epicenter.
